nbc 10 breaking news. >> we are following breaking news on the roads this morning. a series of overnight crashes on the roosevelt boulevard is causing problems for drivers. we'll have an update for you from the scene. and breaking overnight in michigan, random acts of violence. police say a man shot and killed seven people at several different scenes. this morning, one person in custody as the city breaths a sigh of relief. >> when you win it's beautiful. we're going to start winning for our country. >> donald trump and hillary clinton come out as big winners this weekend. the moving and shaking in the race for white house. good morning and welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm katy zachry. it is just 7:00 a.m. on sunday. we'll get to those breaking stories in a political wrap in just a minute. first another warm one. meteorologist karen thomas has the details. good morning, karen. >> good morning, katy, good morning, everyone.

as we wake up this morning, a little cool, a little breezy but plenty of sunshine right now and our temperatures will be warming once again. we reached 60 yesterday in philadelphia and it was a nice day all around. as we go ahead and look live at the city right now, the sun is coming up. just a few wispy clouds around and temperature reading will be bumping up. right now officially at philadelphia in the airport, 42 degrees, 47 in atlantic city, 48 in wildwood, 37 the cool support in new jersey, millville, mount holly 36, 37 in dover. so temperatures moving upward at 8:00 a.m., about 43 degrees or so, 48 at lunchtime, 55. looking for a high temperature of 57, 58 for highs across the region. clouds will thicken later this afternoon and we do have a spritzer or two moving through and possibly a shower sunday night into early tomorrow morning but clearing out very, very quickly. we're tracking a storm system moving in midweek.

i'll be back with more on that in just a bit. >> all right, karen, thank you. breaking news now on the roosevelt boulevard. three overnight crashes are causing problems this morning. nbc 10's drew smith is live near the scene in the nicetown section of philadelphia. drew, when we last heard from you, you said you had new information about. >> we have a lot of new information, katy. first i want to tell you we talked to an officer to see the first car come down the northbound lanes here. opening the lanes right now, shut down for about five hours. also, we've been working the phones all morning trying to get information about the people injured in three separate wrecks. i can tell you now that 11 people were involved in the wrecks, all of them taken to the hospital. but there were two in critical condition right now. that includes an 11-year-old boy as well as an older man. we're told one of those wrecks, the worst out of these three involved a car that flipped over several times. those two people were ejected

from the car. now, this all started around 2:00. our cameras arrived on the scene to see a of emergency activity here on both northbound and southbound lanes. they were able to get traffic moving on the southbound side fairly quickly but investigators had to come out here and figure out what happened with the crash so they kept lanes shut from 2:00 a.m. to just now, 7:00. people heading out here had to avoid the scene from wickahicken to broad street. if you're going to be heading out this morning, we were just told the lanes reopened. if we take a look at our live picture right, those are the first cars to come down the northbound side of roosevelt boulevard all morning. if you were planning on heading, can you now return to this route. we'll keep checking on conditions of those involved and latest two people in critical condition including an 11-year-old boy. live in nicetown, drew smith, nbc 10 news. thank you, drew. we also have breaking news coming from michigan.

a teenager girl is now the seventh person to die following shoots in kalamazoo. police say the man drove around the city randomly shooting people at a car dealership, restaurant and apartment complex last night. authorities arrested the shooter and a victim remains in critical condition. secretary of state john kerry says cease-fire in syria's civil war could begin in the next few days. kerry announced what he called a provisional agreement towards a truce. he spoke with the foreign minister to discuss cease-fire, both diplomats will reach out to syrian government and rebel forces. also new from overnight, police are investigating ali shooting in southwest philadelphia. they tell us the man was one of the. he was found in the 6500 block of greenway avenue around 2:30 this morning. he was pronounced dead at the scene. as of now there have been no arrests. a 20-year-old man is dead

after a double shooting in philadelphia's hunting park section. we're told the second victim is a 17-year-old woman who was shot multiple times. she was taken to temple university hospital in stable condition. police say the two victims were found inside a car near pike street and north park avenue. no word yet on a suspect or a motive. also new from overnight, a suspect is under arrest in the stabbing of a 13-year-old boy. nbc 10 was on the scene along holden street in west philadelphia. police tell us the stabbing happened just after midnight. the boy is listed stable condition. medics are treating him for a stab wound to the arm. police in burks county are searching for three men wanted for a stabbing at the university. police are looking for these three men running from the scene, one wearing a kutztown t-shirt. the man was established near

campus, he's listed in serious condition at the hospital. turning now to decision 2016, here are your winning presidential candidates from yesterday. donald trump ran away with south carolina's republican primary and hillary clinton hung on to win the democratic caucus. in south carolina donald trump won with 30% marco rubio and ted cruz with 22%. hillary clinton came out on top in nevada. here is part of hillary's victory speech. >> some may have doubted. we never doubted each other. the fight goes on. the future we want is within our grasp. >> clinton was expected to easily win in nevada up to three weeks ago but had to rally women, minority and union voters to clinch that victory. bernie sanders voiced optimism after his second place finish in

nevada. the vermont senator said democrats in philadelphia for the convention will see one of the greatest political upsets in u.s. history. in the republican race for president, voters gave billionaire businessman an easy victory. trump in spartanberg last night, he congratulated his opponents, also referred to the gop nomination, say, quote, let's put this thing away. stay with us. you will hear from donald trump in the next half hour. senator marco rubio sounded 6 confident after his second place finish in south carolina. rubio said he's ready to claim the mantel of leadership. senior cruz finished just behind rubio, told supporters his campaign is making history defying expectations of pundits. also last night, republican jeb bush's quest for the white house is over. >> i am suspending my campaign. >> no. >> yes.

all right. good morning. your sunday forecast this morning looking like a nice one for sure. yesterday i think a lot of people got outside and enjoyed. guess what, it's going to be more of the same this morning. look at this beautiful live shot as the sun comes up over camelback mountain, live in the poconos. it's looking pretty nice across the region as we look -- go ahead and look at satellite radar. we are dry.

hundreds rallied in philadelphia's chinatown neighborhood yesterday. demonstrators took to the streets of center city to protest the conviction of nypd officer peter laing. laing was convicted of manslaughter in the 2014 accidental shooting death of an unarmed man in brooklyn. protesters believe the conviction was unjust and the result of social pressure and political influence.

protesters tell us new york police department did not give officer laing adequate training. this protest was one of dozens across the country in support of officer laing. happening today a salute to philadelphia first responders at the rink at dilworth park. rothman offering free admission skate rentals for first responders and family members. the event runs from 1:00 to 4:00 and designed as a thank you to the city's emergency workers. mayor jim kinney, the son of a firefighter, is expected to attend. this weekend philadelphia saluting firefighter heroes who made the the ultimate sacrifice. yesterday they paid tribute at a memorial mass. they remembered firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty. the mayor attended the mass.

as we said, the son of a philadelphia firefighter. the weekend's warm-up came just in time for the mummers' parade. they strutted down main street at the second annual mardi gras. the crowd got a front row seat for glitter, feather and that music. >> a wonderful parade of the people are along the streets, packed like new year's day. that's what fires us up collectively. that's right. the weekend warm-up was just in time for mummers' parade. as you saw they strutted down main street. a lot of people enjoyed that there. happening today hundreds of penn state students will get to sit down after spending 48 hours on their feet for families affected by childhood cancer. this is the dance marathon

anthony as thon. they will keep standing or dancing until this afternoon. now nbc 10 first alert weather. good sunday morning, checking forecast. weather headlines, skies like this, still. that's doing to make a lot of people happy. especially outdoor plans. we are checking shower activity moving through the area later today and early evening and bigger storm that is headed our way midweek. we'll get to that in a bit. 42 officially in philadelphia, winds out of the southwest at 3, relative humidity 82%. temperature readings not doing too badly across the area. 34 in the pocono mountains, 30 allentown really the cold spot up there. 41 in trenton and the closer we get down here to the shoreline and southern delaware we're warming up into the mid to upper 40s with the exception of millville at 37 degrees. worth noting yesterday's high temperatures because we're well above our average high of 45

degrees, we checked in at 60 for high yesterday in philadelphia, 64 in reading. not record breaking temperatures but a nice february warmth for sure. checking low pressure developing and moving west to east out of the ohio valley bringing shower activity tonight and high pressure moving in for the start of our workweek, for monday we're looking for mostly sunny skies and tuesday clouds come back into the picture as we await the coastal low that will be tracking from the south. so a few clouds later on today as we watch this low pressure system that's developing. this is where the moisture is. not a large system for tonight, this evening hours, but we are going to want to hang onto umbrellas this evening as on and off shower activity will move through the area fairly quickly and get out of here by tomorrow. so 55 to 58 across the region for high temperatures today. we'll take you all the way out for seven-day forecast. so we stay dry on monday,

it was a warm day for february yesterday but most people would not have thought to run in their underwear. yes, that is what happened. hundreds of runners hit the streets in very little as you can see, for the annual cupid's

undie run in philadelphia. runners today will also help get the city ready for philadelphia flower show. cannons will explode with real petals at each mile marker. that is one part of the bloom festival leading up to the flower show next month. shops and restaurants across the city are showing support by putting flowers in their display windows and lobbies, some festive creations along the street. the shops with the best displays will get free tickets to the flower show. if you've ever watched an episode of cheers, frasier, friends, will and grace, you probably have, you've seen the director of james burrows. cast members from some of his biggest hits reunited for a celebration of his career >> we would do anything for jim burrows, because he really gave us the opportunity of a

big weekend on the campaign trail. dporgood morning and welcom nbc 10. i'm katy zachry. just a few minutes before 7:30. we'll get to breaking news but first let's talk about the weekend warm-up. karen thomas with details. >> you said it, warm up indeed. yesterday 60 degrees, a lot of sunshine out yesterday. not as much sunshine, limited sunshine for us today but who is complaining when you're looking live at the ocean city boardwalk. my goodness, it's feeling good now. 47 degrees in ocean city. 51 in wildwood right now. but look at that. boy, that's bringing you right to summertime down at the beach. love it. we do have some clouds moving into the satellite picture coming in from the west. clouds will be thickening as we move on through our sunday. all in all not a bad day. we should reach about 57 for a high temperature before it's all said and done. mild and breezy but clouds will over take our forecast later

today and we do expect some shower activity to move through. nothing of a heavy nature but on and off as we get through our sunday evening and into the overnight. clearup for tomorrow. i'll be back to talk to you about a week storm in just a bit. back to that breaking news on the roosevelt boulevard in nicetown area. drew smith is live where they have just reopened lanes a short time ago. drew, what update do you have? >> reporter: katy, this is a welcome scene to people trying to get through here. through broad street all the lanes are open. i do want to update you on the victims in the crash. we just got new pictures from a responder at the scene. it shows one of the cars that had seven people in it this morning when it flipped several time. two people were ejected including a 11-year-old boy and

a man. we're told they are both at the hospital in critical condition. two people at a nearby crash injured. two other people at a crash a mile south of there were also injured in that crash but they are expected to survive their injuries. this was a mess for hours this morning as emergency responders came on both sides of roosevelt built to try to clean up a lot of debris on the road. it took them a few hours to tow the car out of here as well. the focus is on getting those people injured off to the hospital, including a girl as young as 4 years old. i was just talking to one of the responders on the scene. he said it was horrible to see when he arrived to see young kids involved as well and a man extremely badly injured as he was here this morning. we are still checking with accident investigation division about what caused this crash. as soon as we find that out, we'll let you know. live in nicetown, i'm nbc 10 news. >> thank you, drew. we continue to follow breaking

news in kalamazoo, michigan. police identified the man they say shot and killed seven people. 47-year-old jason dalton was arrested this morning. officers found weapons in his vehicle. authorities say he shot victims at random at a restaurant, a car dealership and apartment complex last night. an eighth victim is listed in serious condition this morning. also new from overnight, a suspect is under arrest in the stabbing of a 13-year-old boy. nbc 10 was on the scene along holden street in west philadelphia. police tell us the stabbing happened just after mitt night. the boy is listed in stable condition. medics tell us they are treating him for a wound to the right arm. it is 7:32, turning to politic, decision 2016. you are looking at yesterdayed winning candidates. donald trump around away with south carolina's republican

primary and hillary clinton in nevada. hillary clinton came out on top with 53% of the vote bernie sanders got 47%. in south carolina donald trump won with 33% of the gop vote. marco rubio finished ahead of ted cruz. here is part of trump's victory spee speech. >> there's nothing easy running for president. it's nasty, mean, vicious, it's beautiful. when you win, it's beautiful. we are going to start winning for our country. >> trump congratulated the republican runner up, now focused on winning the gop caucus in nevada on tuesday. senator marco rubio sounded confident after his second place finish in south carolina. rubio said he's ready to claim the mantel of leadership. senator ted cruz who finished just behind rubio told

supporters last night his campaign is making history by defying expectations of pundits. republican jeb bush's quest for the white house is over. he showed emotion telling voters he'll suspend his campaign. he finished fourth in south carolina. former secretary of state hillary clinton took momentum back from her opponent by winning in nevada. clinton was all smiles during her victory speech in las vegas last night. she was expected to easily in win in nevada a few weeks ago but had to rally women, minorities and union voters for victory. senator bernie sanders may have lost in nevada but he's still looking ahead to the democratic national convention right here in philadelphia this summer and he's predicting an upset. take a listen. >> i believe when democrats assemble in philadelphia in july at that convention, we are going to see the result of one of the great political upsets in the history of the united states.

avillion dead on the couch. the victim's family told us they didn't even know fire until they saw it on the air >> called the hospital, called the red cross. i kept calling everywhere and they said, no, we don't have her, we don't have her. >> eight people were displaced by the fire, six people, including three first responders treated for minor injuries. the cause of that blaze is still under investigation. coming up next, salvage mission. how crews at the jersey shore are working to save this barge and a tugboat after some trouble on the water. plus, start your engines for the super bowl of stock car racing. we will have a preview of today's daytona 500.

today crews will try to salvage a barge and tugboat that ran aground on the jersey shore. the tugboat lost power near the inlet. the giant barge it was towing drifted and hit a jetty. fortunately no one was hurt. starting day september ark is offering new bus service in philadelphia. the agency suspending stops. tap the nbc 10 app or go to

seven people are dead following what police are describing as random shootings in kalamazoo, michigan, authorities say a man

drove to several locations and shot people, they did arrest a man this morning. three crashes along roosevelt boulevard in the nicetown section of philadelphia. an 11-year-old boy and man thrown from one of the and now in critical condition. traffic is once again moving along the boulevard. and decision 2016, donald trump and hillary clinton are your weekend winners. trump breezed to victory in south carolina's republican primary. clinton held off bernie sanders in the nevada caucus. and happening today, well, you have another chance to become the next "voice." auditions for the popular show the royce continues at the convention center. open calls started just about an hour ago. contestants did have to preregister to secure an audition spot. the death toll rising in fiji. at least six people confirmed

good along the shoreline. 47 in atlantic city, 47 in dover, delaware. we're close to 50 in extreme south jersey, down in stone harbor and wildwood. the cold spot is millville at 37. we'll go ahead and show you high temperatures from yesterday, worth talking about if you were able attack outside especially in reading, 62 in trenton, yesterday's highs. we're not going to expect to get that warm today but still mild in the upper 50s for just about everybody. a bit of cloud cover pushing into the area at this hour. so we get some peeks of sun this morning but clouds funneling in because of the low pressure system developing right here outside the ohio valley. that's going to be pushing west to east. that is expected to bring us some precipitation at the end of the day. still mild, though. so i think we'll take it. this is going to stay rain because of our temperature profile. you see by 5:00 tonight, this

minutes. >> 2016, front-runners rejoice. hillary clinton and donald trump win over voters in their latest step to the white house. it is the top story on nbc's "meet the press." joining me now for a preview is rater chuck todd. good morning, chuck. >> good morning, katy. >> chuck, let's get right to the republican race for president. we know donald trump was victorious in south carolina's primary. you'll be sitting down with him. how much does this help him win the nomination. >> no republican has won nevada and south carolina back-to-back and hasn't won the nomination. that's number one. any republican that woke up succeeding new hampshire and south carolina back-to-back, the spire narrative of the party would be rallying around the person, presumptive nominee. there's still a big stop trump rally inside the party.

cruz and rubio viewing to be alternative to trump. trump showed he can win in new hampshire, showed he can win in south carolina, that is the winning number in a three-way race. is there going to be a coalescing around one or the other in rubio and cruz. that's what we'll find out. obviously one-on-one, things change. right now, it's donald trump's nomination to lose. >> all right. moving to democrats hillary clinton was victorious in nevada, also expected to win in south carolina. how does bernie sanders respond to this. where does the race go from here? >> i think that's what he struggles with. a victory in nevada would have given this idea that maybe sanders can win in more diverse states, that he could start appealing to both hispanics and african-americans and it would have put all the pressure on hillary clinton to show she could win, raise a whole bunch of questions. all of a sudden people would be
